    Hello

    I passed the 70-642 last month. I put much time and effort into studying. I took a couple of weeks of. Now I am studying for the 70-640. Unfortunately I lost the computer that I was using which had a virtual environment including trial versions of xp, 7, 2008 and 2008 r2. I purchased a new desktop today and have the virutal environment installed along with xp, 7, 2008 and 2008 r2. Since the training guide I am using is a little older I need to get hold of Vista and Server 2003 trials but I cannot find anything on the MS website. Any have any ideas?

    This software is only available for download via a MSDN or TechNet subscription.  If you don’t have one of these subscriptions, you won’t be able to get the software.

    BTW, 70-640 is a Windows Server 2008 certification so why do you need Vista and Windows Server 2003?

    I took the 70-640 last year, you don't need 2003 or Vista to pass the exam. Since the exam has been updated with R2 and Windows 7 you just need a Server 2008 R2 and Win 7 machine.

    Although I would suggest using multiple R2 machines to simulate a 'real world' environment where one machine isn't going to have every feature installed.

    Thanks for the reply. This question is regarding the 70-640 exam. The MS Press book states that to follow all the examples 2003 and vista are needed as well.

    The 70-640 exam has been updated to Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=70-640

    You have an old version of the book.  You need to use the second edition of the book http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0790145314413.do

    Thank you for the reply. Since the MS press book states that two operating systems are needed I am trying to locate them.

    As advised, the software is no longer available as a trial download.

    Also, if you use your book to study for the 70-640 exam, you will fail as the exam no longer tests you on Windows Server 2003 and Vista.

    I'm sorry my post was for the 70-640 exam. It was a typo - i'm currently working on the 70-642 exam so i had that on the brain.

    Regardless that set of exams only cover R2 and Windows 7, so 2003 and Vista would be outdated anyways.
