I currently have a Standard Edition OCS set-up running about 500 clients internally and am looking at installing an edge server. My understanding is Microsoft does not support OCS on a virtual platform, but has anyone implemented a virtual edge server successfully or is it not possible??? I understand that with R2 you can virtualize the edge server but what about R1 I cant find any information.
I have done that several times. It is working without any problems on all major virtual systems (XEN,ESX,Hyper-V). But as you stated not supported by MS.
I have done this with success as well, however, it is important to note you should only virtualize IM roles. If you plan on using this edge to allow A/V, VoIP, etc into the environment it would be better for it to be physical.
