MOE.EXE High CPU use on one device (started few days ago)

    Dotaz

  • I have LiveMesh is use on two computers, one is a laptop where the problem recently started. Both run roughly the same minimal set of software;
    - Windows7 RC 64bit,
    - Office 2007 SP2, Visio, SharePoint Designer.
    - Kaspersky AV (Win7 preview version)
    - Google Gears & toolbar, Quicken, iTunes, etc

And both sync the same two folders (My Documents primarily at about 3GB), a few days ago I noticed that the laptop has started running hot constantly, opening task manager revealed that it is MOE.EXE that is running at a consistent 40%-60% CPU use.

I have investigated this in the following ways:

    1. Confirmed what software has changed in the past week (in order of install):
      - Adobe Reader update installed
      - Java 6 Update installed
      - Google Toolbar installed
I have tried removing all three one at a time in the order above (giving enough time between to be sure that the problem remains) and this did not stop the issue.

    2. Removed / reinstalled Mesh client - no effect, after initial re-sync / merge problem returned.

    3. Set Mesh client to work offline or even signed out (not exited) and problem persists.

    4. Using ProcMon I can see that the MOE process is repeatedly touching all of my sync'd files, it looks to be stuck in some loop? But my other computer with the same files does not suffer from this issue.

Finally it is worth mentioning that the memory usage of MOE.EXE is also quite large, I have noticed it hit 200MB + where my other computer averages at around 60MB..

Anything else I can do to fix this?

    Thanks,

    Martin

  • Hello Martin, it looks like you have been quite thorough in attempting to troubleshoot the issue without success so I would suggest submitting a bug report with Live Mesh logs. • Martin,

Did you ever find out what was causing the excessive CPU utilization thru Mesh?  I'm having the exact same issue on the 2011 RTM version and have gone thru the same steps as you with no success.  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Since you are referring to Windows Live Mesh, not Live Mesh - www.mesh.com, you are in the wrong forum. Yes, the naming convention is confusing, though I like that they kept the Mesh name alive for the upgrade to Live Sync (formerly FolderShare).

For discussion of the new Windows Live Mesh (formerly Sync), (as well as the released Live Sync version) go here:
