Is it possible to work with the com based CommunicatorAPI from a Windows service?

I have been playing around with this over the last couple of  days and when I define the service as LocalSystem I manage to successfully create the com object but I don't get any events.  I do notice that a new communicator.exe task appears in task manager which I guess is due to the fact that LocalSystem is a different user to the one that I am logged in with.  When I try to define the service as a user service (never done this before, so I may have missed something) I get a com error when trying to create the object.

You probably have to configure your service with a domain account that is OCS Enabled

It would be better to use UCCP or UCMA sdk in such a scenario.
