Connection between CRM 4 and Exchange

Hi
Our company is starting a CRM project. I don't really know much about MS CRM but I have one question on the network infrastructure side.
We have a hosted Exchange 2003 environment which is completely separated from the domain where the CRM system will be installed to. Will this present problems if you want CRM and Exchange to talk to eachother?
Should I prepare myself to the idea of creating a VPN tunnel?
Outlook clients can connect to Exchange via HTTPS.. But I'm guessing this is not the case with CRM.
Any tips appreciated.
best regards

You need to look at the CRM Email Router component. This is the bridge that CRM uses to communicate with Exchange. it uses SMTP to send mail and POP to poll for incoming mail. I believe that the email router can sit in the CRM domain, and then talk SMTP/POP to the Exchange server in a different domain.
