why can't i download this file?

  i have an important document i can't download. it was sent in an email in the format of a .docx file. my computer loops from the open/save option continually. a while back, i had a virus and took the computer to a technician for repair. since then, i have had this problem. what can i do to fix this? additionally, (assuming this can be fixed) can i convert the .docx file to a pdf file?
