Office 2007 reporting it is not genuine after computer was restored to previous day's image.

I have a laptop that was recently formatted and reloaded with Windows XP. A retail version of Office Professional Plus 2007 purchased from buy.com was then re-installed and activated using the key on the Product key inside the box. It is clearly a geniuine product, properly packaged and accompanied by the usual COA, etc. It was also succesfully being used with no issues for more than 6 months before the computer had to be formatted. And at this time, it remained working and error free. At this time we used Acronis to take a backup image of the computer in case anything went wrong while installing the rest of the apps.
The next day there was an issue with a botched installation of another program, so we rolled back to the backup image we had taken the previous day. After restoring from the backup image, everything seemed fine, and all the other applications were re-installed. Later that day it popped up and said Office is not genuine, and reports that it is in invalid Volume License Key. This machine has never had any kind of Volume license key installed. Ever!
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing a multitude of times, ran the Fix-it to delete the activation, deleted the registry keys for registration, etc. before and after re-installing and nothing is working. I am out of ideas and need this machine to function ASAP. All the data has since been restored, so reformatting it again is really not an option. - If it comes to that it will cost me and the user another couple of unproductive days. Help! What am I missing?

Unfortunately, your installed copy of Office is a common professionally-made counterfeitIt's not Office Professional -it's Office Professional Plus - the biggest difference being that the Plus edition was NEVER sold to the general public, but only to organisations in bulk for use on their own machines. The Key in use is also not one that MS issued - it's been generated by a hacker's KeyGen tool. You need to attempt to claim a refund from your vendor - which could be a little difficult at this late date :(
