double nat access from outside the home network

I would like to know the following
a: if a hardware adslrouter with nat is connected to a private firewall (eg firebrick) wich ports do i need to have open for access from outside my network.
b: what are the maximum devices which are allowed to be connected..
eg firewire ports, usb ports, physical harddisk drives,
should the box support gigabit or other high speed technologies
5 backups on a 100mb lan will keep it busy, use of a ups and database support for a phone system (eg emails store for voicemail at home)
what is the dream/perfect top spec for a home server.not the minimum spec
eg ram, cpu (number of cores) like dual xeon ... stuff like that
ps i am still waiting for an invitation
ready to go, and take a home server one step further for mankind. make the
future more inviting secure your network with ... video data..

Why double firewalls? Ports were listed by Tom Ziegmann.
b: what are the maximum devices which are allowed to be connected.. Connected to the Windows Home Server physical? Network? I believe this would be a limitation of the hardware. External Hard drives should really be attached to there own USB/Firewire card.
