已答复 Can't log in to system...

After installing the Steadystate software and rebooting my Windows XP machine, I can't get to the Windows log on screen through a normal boot.  I can log in through Safe Mode, but it won't allow me to uninstall Steadystate.  It tells me that Disk protection is on.  If I disable it, I am told that the system is going to reboot, then I am back to square one, and the disk protection is still turned on.

Can someone please provide some insight as to what is happening and how to get the software off the machine?

    Thanks.

You did make a full image backup of your system before installing SteadyState, yes? Acronis and ShadowProtect, along with a USB hard drive, are my closest friends when I start doing something new.

    hi Craig,

you mentioned"After installing the Steadystate software and rebooting my Windows XP machine, I can't get to the Windows log on screen through a normal boot"
could you let me know more details? eg, could you get to the welcome screen? where does the start&logon process stagnate?

We could not uninstall Steadystate in safe mode because the related VCFsvc service will  not be started in safe mode.

I finally got it, by booting into Safe Mode, deleting some of the registry keys and using System Restore to go back to the previous morning.

With Steadystate installed (after the first reboot after turning disk protection on) I could not get to the Windows logon screen.  It appears the Windows Kernel loaded fine, but after the Kernel loads the screen should turn blue and display the log on page...It just stayed black.

It should be noted that my system is connected to a Active Directory Domain.

    Hi,

There may be clues in the event log about what failed.
