Where do I start out? In terms of learning C# and taking my first exam and building my way up?

Hello,
I'm a little confused about how these Microsoft exams start etc. Where does one start in terms of taking the first step to being a certified C# programmer with a Microsoft certificate?
Which exams do I take first? How advanced do I need to be and how will I know?
Thanks,
Charlie.

Hi,
there's no specific C# exam. Mostly you can choose the code language (C# or VB) before you start the exam.
Normally you should not start learning a technology through taking an exam. Microsoft recommends for most of its exams that you have a minimum of one year real-life experience with the appropriate technology.
Since the last year Microsoft has some lower level exams for students called MTA - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mta.aspx
The next step would be a MCTS certification - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcts.aspx
After that you normally take a MCPD exam - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcpd.aspx - or a MCITP exam - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcitp.aspx. But remember that for these exams you must have some prerequisites.
In what you're more interested? Web development, desktop development, or more server related technologies (like SharePoint)? This decision should be the starting point and from it you can choose your certification track.
