Setting the default view within a Parent Entity - CRM 2011

I am not sure what the view itself is called, but basically, its the Opportunity view, that is nested within an Account view (where you can see all the related opportunities).
When this sub-view for Opportunities opens up, it always opens up with "Opportunity Associated View". Instead, I would like a different view (custom view or system view), to be set as the default.
Is this possible?
Note: I have set the default view for the Opportunities view. But this setting seems to be ignored, when I looking at Opportunities from with an Account.

The view you're referring to is the Opportunity Associated View. Any time you use the left-hand navigation to browse records relating to your primary record, you're using that Associated View of the related entity.
Associated Views are customizable. You can modify the colums, sort order and filter criteria. But you can't use a different view in place of the Associated View without some significant custom development.
Some associated views for some system entities have special features. In the account form's associated opportunities grid, for example, as well as the associated view there are a couple of picklists: Filter On (default is Open) and Include (default is Related 'Regarding' Records). There's no standard feature for modifying the default values of these picklists but it's possible with a custom script.
Associated sub-grids work along similar lines, but slightly differently.
