    I am on Windows XP SP3, trying to open any website on IE 6.0. But no matter what I do, it always opens the link in Chrome browser instead of IE and I always see an about.blank on IE address bar.

    Sounds like you’ve set Chrome as your default browser – Open Internet Options click on the Programs tab.
     
    ensure that the Default browser is set to IE by clicking on the Make Default button and clicking Apply – and check that the ‘Tell me...’ option is ticked.
    OK out and try again.
