Templates, e.g. GLOBAL.MPT

I know how to change/add/delete tables, views, calendars, etc. for the GLOBAL.MPT, but how do you modify e.g. the barstyles for the GLOBAL.MPT? Everytime I open a new project in MSP 2010 there are a lot of different barstyles (many of them with "Manually scheduled" that I would never ever use) and I basically only want to use 5 + a handful of custom-made barstyles. Therefore in theory 15-20 barstyles have to be delete every time and new made (of course I don't do this, but use another project set up according to my requirements and then delete existing data). Let us say I wanted to change the barstyles available in GLOBAL.MPT. How is that done?
Likewise, when Project is opened, it automatically opens a blank project based on the GLOBAL.MPT. Anyway you can force Project to automatically open a new project based on another template than GLOBAL.MPT and if so, where? (say you used some weird customized template 95% of the time and you didn't like to change the GLOBAL.MPT too much).

BJ

Hi BJ,
I have no idea how to remove bar styles from Global.mpt. I am not even sure if this was a good idea?
But you could create your own customize views (e.g. name by an preceding _ to have them at the top). For these views you can delete all bar styles you don't want to use. Copy these customized views to your global.mpt in Organizer dialog, so they will be available for each project (no need to use an existing project any longer). Moreover, you can define one of your customized views of global.mpt to be used as Default View when you create a new blank project.
Organizer can be found at File - Info - Organizer
Default view can be set at File - Options - General - Project View section - Defualt View field.Does this make your live easier?

Hi Barbara,
Live easier? Now it is!
I know about the Organizer for views, tables, calendars, etc. and also used it to copy some of my own customized fields with formulas to the Global.mpt to check for some normal schedule errors (like hard constraints, long durations, high float, etc. - similar to those included in the DCMA 14-Point Schedule Assessment) so they are available for all schedules.
So yes, I'm aware that views can be made with the barstyles of choice. I just wanted it initially and automatically when opened for the built-in Gantt Chart-view. And in the mean time I recalled how to remove the barstyles from Global.mpt: open new blank project, modify the Gantt Chart view by removing unwanted barstyles, go to Organizer and then copy and replace the Gantt Chart view from Project1 to the Global.mpt.
However, as you indicate – and I totally agree – quite dangerous to overwrite/replace something existing in the Global.mpt. Therefore you gave me a good idea with the "Default View". See it every day, but have never thought about what it actually implied as I just wanted to see the Gantt Chart. Now I'll make a modified "Gantt Chart" (barstyles of my choice) as default view and then remove the original Gantt Chart view from the View Bar.
Thanks,
BJ

We just migrated our project site to a new server. When we open pre-existing projects in the new server, we're prompted with a message stating that a view doesn't exist in the global. I know it's not wise to delete the views, nor rename them? Does anyone know how to trouble-shoot this issue. Are these projects referring to a previous version of the global.mpt? does that file get written (or over written) to my c drive or to project server? We're using 2010.
Thanks for any information you can provide. This link had this advice
