After uninstalling an old (2009) McAfee AV solution from my WHS1 box (HP Data Vault), I can only log in to WHS briefly (span of about a few minutes). Here are the steps I must take in order to be able to connect for even that long. Please note
that I can reproduce this behavior when connecting from ANY of my WHS-connected machines:
1) Power-cycle the Data Vault.
2) Wait a minute or two.
3) Attempt to connect with either the Connector or Remote Desktop Connection.
4) If I have timed it right, I can both see shared folders and start a remote session (seeing the desktop and all that). However, the server cannot keep a remote session running for longer than a couple of minutes. Usually it freezes right when
I am trying to access the console in order to diagnose the problem.
It isn't a network issue--server pings reliably, and I am attempting to connect via computers on the inside of the firewall.
