Project Enterprise Fields with lookup table show duplicated content in PDP

תשובה Project Enterprise Fields with lookup table show duplicated content in PDP

I use a Project Detail PDP page for a TPE to create new projects and in this page there is some Text Project Enterprise Fields with Lookup table associated. In a few projects the value of the field appears duplicated separated with a comma in view mode. For instance, the value of the lookup table list is "In progress". In the field in view mode appears as "In progress, In progress". If I go to edit mode or go to Project Professional, the content appears only once. If I save it and close in PWA (or in Project Professional) and go back in view mode to the PDP, the issue remains.

I even tried to save the project as mpp format and overwrite on the published project in Project Server and published again without success.

This duplicated information appears on any desktop using different user accounts, so the problem is within the server and not a video driver issue.

Does anybody have a clue about how to solve this problem?

Have you applied SP1 or any recent cumulative update?

    Hi Ricardo,

I've posted the same problem here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projectserver2010general/thread/be0a0afe-9178-4546-afd8-81a214642aae

Have you applied the December CU?

    Regards,

    Fabrizio.

    Hi Christophe,

Yes, SP1 and CU Dec 2011 applied both on server and desktop.

    Hi Fabrizio,

Our site did not migrate from 2007 and yes, we installed the Dec 2011 CU. We did not detect this problem before applying this CU but I cannot assure this because it was in pre-production stage.

By now we have about 40 projects created using TPE and only two of them present this strange behavior until now.

We are also having the trouble of 'Unkown error' on Project Center views that have a filter embedded in it. If we disable the filter in view configuration, apply it and we recreate the same filter interactively in the Project Center page, it works flawlessly.

    Hi,

It seems like SP1 is fine as I've also installed it without having these type of issues but users who have installed either Oct or Dec CU started having this duplicates. My suggestion, just roll back!

    Thanks, Kashif

    Yes Kashif,

I was suspecting about the Dec CU, but I received some reports from Oct CU users, so it probably started in the Oct CU.

Anyway, there is not any solution in sight yet.

I've seen a couple of threads on this now, and we do have an active hotfix request in progress to help resolve this issue.  No ETA on the fix just yet.  A couple of different scenarios you might see with this bug - the first is the one above where you see duplicate values - the other we have seen is that the Project Center will fail to load (Unknown Error) again due to the duplicate custom field values.  The CF may be in the view, a filter or in some cases may not appear to be related to the view at all.

More information once we have it...

    Best regards,

    Brian.

We have the Dec CU applied as well and are seeing this.  While we're waiting for a patch, we're saving off a local copy of the schedule, deleting the schedule from the server, then loading it back to the server from a saved copy.  Hopefully this doesn't make things worse by leaving orphaned records in the database.

In case the product team needs more support pushing this hotfix: my customer has the same problem and it ruins reports in Excel that are linked to the cube.

Other than that, I'm quite happy with this release! :-)

Thanks Bram, Ricardo and others on the thread - the fix has already released, but I had been waiting for the KB which has only just gone live, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598251 .  The fix is also included in the server roll-up package http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2597152.  It is not however included in the non-roll-up packages http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2597932 - and you will need to load the hotfix if you use that CU.  The other non roll up package - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2597138 has been removed from the download site as the 2598251 fix includes everything that was in the 2597138 CU, plus the fix - so can be used in place of that Project Server only fix.

I am just researching what is happening with the clean-up scripts, as the fix will stop the problem happening, but will not clean up existing situations where the dupplicate data already exists.  I'll respond back here and also be doing a blog post shortly.

    Best regards,

    Brian.

    Thanks Brian.

I will install the CU of March 12 and the KB 2597152 on the application servers and I will wait for the scripts to clean up the existing issues.

    Great work Brian!

    Hi Brian,

You posted in March 23 that:

"I am just researching what is happening with the clean-up scripts, as the fix will stop the problem happening, but will not clean up existing situations where the dupplicate data already exists.  I'll respond back here and also be doing a blog post shortly."

Is there such scripts to clean up the existing situations? I find out in the forum fragments of scripts but most of them informed that they are part of longer scripts supplied from Microsoft's support.

    Hi Brian,

Could you please confirm that the Fix is included in the package KB2597152? I am asking this because I don't found the KB2598251 description into it.

    Hi Brian,

Any updates yet on the cleanup scripts?

I installed the feb cu but we most likely need the cleanup scripts to be run to solve the issue.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Brian,

We will also need your cleanup script. Can you let us know in which release stage the script is?

This is a pretty significant issue that is affecting our users. It will be more than appreciated.

    Thanks

It is expected to be live within 24h Dave, and I was waiting until it was live - but didn't want to leave you hanging if it goes live while I'm not looking - but I have no control over the process at this stage - so keep an eye on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598251 and the scripts are being added to the KB.  It may also take a while to propogate to all our servers too.

    Best regards,

    Brian.

Sorry it took a little longer than expected - needed to be sure the SQL scripts were formatted right in the posting.

The KB at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598251 now has the scripots, and I have also detailed the relationship with the recent February CUs in my blog post at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brismith/archive/2012/04/16/project-server-2010-an-unknown-error-in-project-center-usually-related-to-filters-and-duplicate-custom-field-values.aspx.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Brian,

I applied in two of my customers that presented either duplicated entries in PDP or Unexpected error in Project Center view with embedded filter and it worked like a charm.

    Great job!

    Hi Everyone,

Although the scripts correct the already affected projects with project enterprise fields in PDP and unexpected error in Project Center view were already published and noted here by Brian Smith, the correction that prevents further errors is included only in the April 2012 cumulative update (and not in the February 2012 CU as PWAdmin questioned before), that you can look at the following URL:

    http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2598152&kbln=en-us
The KB 2598272 is that deals the issue.

Do not forget to update the Project 2010 too to keep the updates syncronized. The link is:

    Hi PWAAdmin

Actually the hotfix that prevents further error of both problems was not included in the CU of Feb/12, the one you wrote as March CU (I also thought that it was the March CU, since it was released on March,10).

It is included in the CU of April, specifically in the hot fix KB 2598272. Read details in the KB in the link below

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598272

To get the Apr 12 CU links are:
