Válasz Problem with resource usage view in project professional 2010

The problem is that TOTAL HOURS for the day do not take into consideration hours that the resource has assigned to on other projects than the one we're looking at.

If you look at the screenshot down below at let's say T September 20, you can see that the total hours the resource is allocated for that date is 2h. But if you look down below the resource is also allocated to other projects where it says 3.15h.

The correct number should be 3.15 (other project) + 2h (current project) that should equal 5.15h total not only 2h.

He is the only resource whohas this problem on the team. He has the same groub and category permissions as other resources in his group.

    Thank you for help

    Hi Pawel

A quick trial would be republishing of the other project whose assignments are not populating, that can synch the resource allocation.

However there could be couple of things why this might happen: listing some of them here,  has there been a case where the task has been deleted and re added, or there has been reassignment / self assignment of task from PWA, or this task has been marked as 100% and then again rolled back to something less than 100% ? Has there been a resource allocation in MSP on this task which was replaced with this resource by deleting the previous resource and not done through the Re-assignment option of MSP?

Also check in task usage view, if the resource is showing the same total hours for the tasks (as in the resource usage) or it is showing the correct figure as expected?

Please let us know, so that we can look into it further if above suggestions/scenario is not the case.

    Hi,

I have the exact same problem:

    1. The total for the resource does not take into account the "Other projects and commitments" section.
    2. The total for the "Other projects and commitments" line display is empty, while it should have the total of the section, which is not 0h.
    3. It happens for one resource only.   Other resources total match.
    4. The projects are published.

Is there an explanation for this inconsistency?

    Thanks,

    Benoit

    Pawel:

When you logon to Project Server from the Project Client, are you selecting the check box to "Load Resource Summary Assignments?" Or, do you have Project set to automatically connect to Project Server? If the latter is the case, then you will never see this option, so set your connection to manual.

Unless you select this checkbox, the information you see for other projects and commitments will not be accurate.

    Hi Gary,

In my case, this check box is selected by default, and I let it checked.

    Thanks,

    Benoit:

You may have the "same symptoms" however we cannot conclude that you have the "same problem," particularly becasue we haven't identified what the problem is. Perhaps you can provide more specifics about your system and whether or not you are seeing errors in the queue or ULS logs. Steps to reproduce are very helpful as well.

As Gary Chefetz clearly stated to the last user who claimed to have the same problem, it would really help us if you described the exact problem you are experiencing.  Please tell us more and we will try to help you.

Hi Dale,  I had clearly stated my problem in the third message of this thread.  Here is the description from this message:

My last reply was to someone named Marco, who identifies himself as Eureka Service, not to you.  So, are you Benoit, Marco, or are both of you the same person?

On the other hand, I believe I have seen this behavior when a project that should appear in the Other Projects and Commitments section is a project that you do not have the permission to see.  Would that help to explain your issue?  Also, please tell us your current level of Service Packs and Cumulative Updates in your next post.

    Hi Dale,

    Server updated to KB2597015
Client tested with several different updates installed without any change in behavior.
    Below I list the steps:

    • I create a new project.
    • I build the team.
    • I close and reopen the project.
    • I enclose below the error in the "09/04" and "04/06":

    Any ideas?
    thanks
    Marco

    Hi Marco,

I assume that you are not allowed to open all projects your team members are members of (category). This will explain the difference you see: missing hours are in projects, you are not allowed to open. Is there a change for you to check, if there are more projects, your team members are working on?

Hi Barbara, thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I connect to the server as administrator, I can see all projects, all resources,...

can you suggest me something else to check?

    Hi Gary,

I am having the same problem. I am logged in using Administrator's A/c through which i installed PS 2010 with SP1 which means should have access to all projects and resources.

Still, when i see resource assignments in " Resource Usage" - for Other projects and committments , the rolled up work values & % Allocation is not accurate.

It is not adding up work value from other projects.

    Any help ?

how to rebuild project reporting database ?

    Thanks,

    Regards,

    Aqueel

To rebuild report DB, take an Administrative Backup of the Enterprise Custom Fields, then perform an Administrative
Restore.  This will trigger a Reporting Database rebuild.
If you monitor the queue you will see an initial job that says Reporting Database Refresh and this will soon change to Reporting Database Refresh(Sleeping) – but this is ok.

    Hi Tomas,

Thanks for the reply. I will plan it some off day for such RDB Refresh. Any impacts doing this ?

I wanted to make sure this is the same i did a month back to fix OLAP cube build issue. I observed workflow information will be emptied if you refresh RDB.

BTW, what could be the reason for such in accuracy ? Why work values not getting adding up accurately ? I cant see permission issue because i am an Administrator. It is not for everybody. For some resources it is accurate.

    Any thoughts ?

    Thanks,

    Regards,

    Aqueel

    Hi Aqueel,

after rebuild report DB i known one issues will happens. all enterprise project types guid will be "NULL" so if you have any report build on enterprise project types this report will not display correct data. but after project is re-republish this enterprise project type guid will be restored. so it means that is necessary re-publish all projects in project server to restore EPT guid.

one of the reasons of this accuracy could be any changes in enteprise custom fields in project server. This is the cause that I noticed.
