    Hi there,

I'm a sharepoint administrator for a farm that includes Project Server.

I'm a noob when it comes to project server

For the archived projects I need to add users to multiple projects.

How do I go about doing this??Is there an OOTB way to do this the Project Server way or do I have to use powershell and simply add the users to SharePoint groups??

    Kind regards,

    Robert

Ok so I found out that you can use categories for this.

We have a test environment and I added a user to a project server group and then added the group to a project server category.

And specified some projects from the archive to that Category.

However, I still get no access to the project sites in the archive.

    Any ideas??

    Hello Robert,

I am not clear about the issue here since you have mentioned Archive Project and Archive site, both are different entities.

In project server when project is 100% complete, depending on business requirement, Project admin will move completed projects to specific category where only specific set of users like admins will still have access to those projects.

Would appreciate if you please provide more details about your requirement and current steps which you have tried to address your issue

    Thanks,

    thank you for replying,

As I said i'm a noob so my terminology is probably not correct.

however, the scenario you're suggesting comes close to what we're trying to do.

What we have are a group of project managers that still want to be able to access the project once the project has completed and has been moved to the workspace archive (that's the name of the link in the navigation).

What i'm seeing is that people who were originally on a certain project do have access to the completed projects, but other people(e.g. other project managers) get an access denied message when trying to access the project. When I check the sharepoint site for the project, I can see that a number of people have access and those people seem to be the people who were involved in the project. Over time, a number of new project managers have joined the company, but because they  were not on the completed projects, they do not have access to those projects.

I want to give these new project managers access to these old/completed projects(project sites in sharepoint.)

I've learned now that this should be done with groups and categories in Project server. But it seems that specifying groups and adding project sites to a category is not enough. Are there more steps that need to be taken??
