Can plugins be invoked by keyboard shortcuts?

  If I create a content plugin that can for instance convert selection to <code>selection</code>, is there an easier way to execute it that to switch to the Insert tab, clicking the plugin button and switching back to Home? Keyboard shortcut or adding a button to the Home ribbon?
