    Hi,

I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but I'll try anyway.

Windows Explorer (window) is constantly opening up with messages "stopped working" and "is restarting". I can't get the windows to close out permanently. The windows close-out but then are back a couple of seconds later. It seems that the computer desktop loses it's icons while this is happening - maybe the computer shuts down tempoarily?? Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this? Thanks.

You are off topic for this forum, but I can tell you that something is causing Explorer, a core process of the User Interface for Windows, to crash repeatedly. It restrts and rebuilds your desktop, which is why you are unable to shut down.

This is probably due to a driver problem or software you installed that is misbehaving. Your best bet is to use System Restore to return to a time before the problem began or to boot from the Windows Vista DVD and let it try to repair Windows. You can also check in at the Vista General newsgroup here: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.general&cat=en_US_9CA88DDB-D18D-FA0E-A366-6E527B0FBA67&lang=en&cr=US or contact the computer vendor if this is a new computer with Vista pre-installed.
