Make the Actual Work Field takes the values of hours

Hello,
We are using Project server 2007 SP2.
After the success of creating and publishing a project plan on the server, we are facing the following issue:
In our existing project on the server, we have some tasks need only three hours to be done.
The problem is that when the person who assigned to him these tasks(which need only three hours to complete),access to PWA -> My tasks, to change the Actual start, actual finish and actual work fields, The Actual work field can not take the value of the three hours after the process of any Save operation and the value becomes one day instead of three hours.
I wish I could attach a picture of the problem, to becomes more clear, but I did not know how to attach a picture here, so I hope that explanation is enough for our problem.
Thanks in advance,
Scott.

Hi Scott,
On PWA - Server Settings - Task Settings and Display, what is the option selected for the tracking Method?
This will determine as to how team members can enter their progress infomration in My Tasks.
Please do not change this without some planning, this is a fairly important change to make.

Dharmesh

How are you doing Dharmesh?
The tracking method is Percent of work complete
I'm Waiting your reply for the next step :)

Scott.

Hello Scott,
I am doing very well, thank you. I see that you are still busy with Project Server :-)
Ok, so here is the issue that you are having. The tracking method is set to Percent of work complete - this means in My Tasks users are completing the percentage of work that they are completing rather than hours of work. So it is not showing a true reflextion.
What you need to do, is work with your Planning Team or Planning Office to understand what they are trying to achieve and if actual hours of work or percentage complete is required. This needs to be determined by your team. Before this change is made planning will need to be done as to what will happen to open tasks and how would you handle this.
There is an option to allow different tracking methods per project, but I would advise not to do this. This can make your reporting very complex and it will not provide you with a true reflextion of work.
I hope in simple terms this answers your question.
Regards,
Dharmesh

Yes, I feel that the work on it will not end and I am happy because someone like you is always here to help me in solving its problems :)
The Management here wants to just three fields can be changed: Actual start, actual finish and actual work fields. So the percentage of work is not required.
Would you please guide me which option can i choose to allow values of hours are accepted when i fill the Actual work field.
regards,
Scott.

Hi Scott,
1. OK so, firstly a communcation must be sent out detailing the tracking method is coming to be changed.
2. Then arrange a time to change the tracking method / make the change.
3. For all current projects, ask all project managers to publish their projcets via Project Pro 2007 so this change is replicated out.
Please note this is my advice to you. I would highly recommend that you try this out in a test envrionment as this is a change in how progress will be captured.
Happy to help where I can. Hope that this does help.
Best Regards,
Dharmesh
PS - if this has answered your question, please make this as answered. If this was a helpful post please make this post as helpful.

Thanks Dharmesh,
I set the the tracking method Hours of work done per period and asked my manager to make publish for a project via Project Pro 2007, but i have something strange now:
Please tell me why the Actual finish field becomes blank when I set the Actual work field 1,2,3...9 hours??
Is it impossible to fill the Actual finish field when i have actual work field with values of hours?!
Regards,
Scott.
