I have used Project the application for several years now and am new to Project Server.

As part of our testing we simpy copied a project plan from the application to Project Server.

We have noticed some of the changes/enhancements.

One thing we have been unable to locate is the Duration field.  We can create a Duration column however, It only seems natural for this field to be included as part of the default.

Has it been removed? if not where is it located?

    Hi Tom,

The Duration Field is not removed from Project 2010.

However for your reference the below link explains all "Available fields reference" in Project 2010

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/project-help/available-fields-reference-HA010370279.aspx?CTT=1

Tom when you mentioned about "Simply copied a project plan from application to Project Server" are you referring to paste a project schedule in PWA 2010. I would rather perform using Microsoft Project 2010 and then publish to Project Server and then check the data.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers!

    Thank you that should help.

Now how do I get the field to show up.

From task>list view>when I click modify view. My only choices are what is seen below.

How do I get duration or any other items to show up as a choice?

To answer your other question. What I mean by copy is we took each line of the project plan from the application and put it into Project Server 2010.

The first thing we did was to try to replicate the look and feel of project the app into project server.

The one field we were unable to move or put in the view was duration.

(The paste did not show up well.  I will upload a screen shot if possible)

Tom, Have you checked your View for Task, you can set it default if you modify your view for Settings.

    Thank you

That is what I am trying to do

However I do not see "duration" as an option and/or see a way to add "duration" without having to create a custom field.

I believe it already exists.  It is just a matter of finding what to click to get it to show.

Hi Tom, the duration field has to be there - its fundamental.  Can you upload a screen shot somewhere for us to view.

Also, are you just seeing this on one machine, or can you replicate it on several?

I think we need to see this before we can help further.

Tom, there are lots of file sharing apps out there.  Why not load some screen shots upto Windows Skydrive - http://www.windowslive.co.uk/skydrive.aspx , post the URL, and we'll see if we can help further.

    Ah ha,

You are quite right, there is no duration field where you are looking.  What you have done is create a SharePoint site, using a SharePoint Template called "Microsoft Project Site".  Alas this has very little to do with Project Server 2010.

You need to create a new project (using Project Pro, and publish this to Project Server).  This then creates for you a project workspace (note that duration is not part of this workspace either), but it does then allow viewing of the duration of tasks via the Project Web App.  An alternative is to create the Project via the Project Web App (ie via the web), but again, this is done via the Project Server instance hosted within SharePoint.

Have you installed and configured Project Server? - if so, go to the URL (eg http://<servername>/<instance> and login to the system.  Select the Projects link on the LHS and then click on create new project.

    Hi Tom,
You have created Stare Point Site with (Project Server template)  not Project Server , the field you are talking to add as Duration is the List field.

    Please intall Project Server...
