How can I close a task without it affecting actual hours in timesheets

Spørgsmål How can I close a task without it affecting actual hours in timesheets

We are using MSProject 2010 and web access to manage several projects.  We also use web access for timesheet entry.

Tasks from the projects automatically populate the timesheets for the resources assigned.

Users then enter their actual hours worked.

The issue we are having is... when we close out a task, it automatically puts actual hours worked into the timesheets of each resource.

Is there a way to close a task and not have it change resources timesheets??

    Hi There--

Did you make the remaining work as 0 on the task which you are completing/closing? If you make the %complete as 100% with remaining work in project, It updates the actual hours.

My guess is that you are having this issue, since your PM's are closing the task, by marking it 100% complete, without zeroing out the remaining work. In this case, project assumes that the work was used as planned and populates the actual work in Timesheets.

In my opinion, your task Closure process should include atleast the following two steps:

    • Make sure the Remaining work on the task is zeroed out, before marking it 100% complete (this will solve the problem you mention in your question)
    • You should use Close Your tasks to Updates option from PWA, to lock the tasks from having any further updates.
