    For Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition, you can install windows media player through installing "Desktop Experience" windows server feature under "Server Manager"->Features->Desktop Experience

    But if your windows OS is an "HPC Edition", you're not able to add "Desktop Experience", you have to use "Windows 2008 R2 standard Edition" or above.
