Blocked Microsoft Product Key. message error : 0XC004C003

    Question

  • HI

I have recently purcahsed a Windows 7 32bit and 64bit package. All looks fine and genuine. (yip: An auction site)

I installed it with no hassle but it didn't want to activate. I got the following message:

I'm told that the product key has been blocked by Microsoft. message error 0XC004C003.

I have been reading on posts regarding something related to MSDN, what might this be?

Here is a report of the diagnostic:

  • You do not have an MSDN product key.  You have an OEM SLP product key for Windows 7 installed on a computer that was built in 2008, more than a year before Windows 7 was released to manufacturers.  OEM SLP licenses are installed at the factory.  This computer did not ship from the factory with this license.  OEM SLP licenses are not transferrable.

    Windows Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00497
    Windows Product ID Type: 2
    Windows License Type: OEM SLP

This is not a valid combination.  Return the software for a full refund and purchase Windows from the Microsoft Store, Amazon (not affiliates), or other trusted major reseller.  Do not buy from online auctions or deep discounters.  These are mostly counterfeits.

  • Unfortunately, the installed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate is counterfeit.  Contact the seller and demand a full refund!  Next time, purchase Microsoft software only from a trusted, reliable, proven source, such as the Microsoft Store.  You'll need to purchase a "Full Version" Windows 7 license and then perform a "clean install".

  • Is it possible for me (once refunded) to simply purchase a license from Microsoft and use it on the currently not activated windows or do I have to purchase one with discs etc and then perform a clean install?

  • Legal copies of Windows must include software as well as a product key.  Even the Microsoft Store provides both even if you choose to only download the key.  You can use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System Properties page without reinstalling provided you purchase the same edition that is installed.
