Error Code 0XC004E003

    Question

  • Hi -

I get to the "Activating Windows...  This might take a few minutes" screen, but within ten seconds I get an error message that pops-up saying the activation failed.

The error code is 0XC004E003.  Then it says for a possible resolution click for more information.  So I click on that and all it says is the software licensing service reported that license evaluation failed.

I have tried to activate windows numerous times (I'd say about 10 times by now) and it failes every time with the same error.  I have tried rebooting my machine also and re-entering the product key.  Any ideas?  Thanks

  • The reason it was reporting an invalid key was because I was having problems with my activation.  Here is the new data that appears in the diag. tool:

  • Because this forum is dedicated to validation issues, you’ll need to contact outside support for the expertise necessary to troubleshoot your non-validation related issue.  You can do so by posting or searching in the Vista pubic newsgroups, found here: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx or by following this link to Product Support Services.  Microsoft has a 90 day free support period that starts on the day you first acquire Vista.

If you bought your computer pre-installed with Vista either from a computer store or an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) like Dell or Gateway, you’ll need to contact them for support.  Thanks!

I also followed the post that you linked me to.  I tried to run the slmgr.vbs -rilc to reinstall the system licensing files.  I was running it under administrator mode and it said I did not have proper permissions.  Then I ran that sysprep program that sets your computer back to out-of-box-experience.  That worked ok, but I still run across the same error when I try to activate.

  • Where did you obtain your license (Product Key) for Windows Vista?  Your report indicates an "Invalid License" for Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.

  • Where did you get your copy of Windows Vista Ultimate RTM?

    -phil

    Wednesday, December 13, 2006 2:59 AM
  • I don't think I have the RTM version because down in the right hand corner of the screen it says evaluation copy.  Anyways, I got vista from an email that was sent from Microsoft.  I looked like an update because I had previously participated in the CPP (or was it CCP, I can't remember which) program for vista Beta 2.

Please provide the link where you downloaded Windows Vista Ultimate 6000 (RTM). Its not available as regular release until 2007. Currently only business, MSDN, and enterprise users have this availability.
