  • Dear customer,

Thank you for taking an interest in Microsoft Fix it Center (Beta). I am sorry to hear about the problem you encountered when run the Fix it Center application. Based on your descried "Error: unrecognized configuration section system.ServiceModel. (C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v.2.0.50727\Config\machine.config line 134)", I think you may need update ".net framework" to 3.5 version on your PC.

For download and install .net framework 3.5 please refer to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/cc378097. After you finished install it please try re-install "Fix it center" again. If you still have any doubt about this issue please let me know.

  • Hi Rebort,

Thanks for your feedback. Could you please go to path "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG" and open file "machine.config" via notepad.  and provide to me between the section "<system.serviceModel>" and section "</system.serviceModel>" inner text. It will let me know your framework currently configuration. If you can't find section "<system.serviceModel>" please let me know.  Thanks!

  • Hi Yan,

There is NO system.serviceModel entry in "machine.config" in the path as above.

    Thank you

  • Hi Rebort,

Thanks for your posted. Do you make sure "system.serviceModel" section is not in "machine.config" on your computer? If so  I'm very sorry, you may need re-install .net framework again, it did not seem to be the correct configuration. Perhaps you re-install ".net framework" again that can resolve your issue.  I suggest you install version of 3.5. After you finished install it please try install "Fix it center" application again.

  • Hi Rebort,

Thanks for your information and feedback. Based on your provided machine.config informations, it seem to hasn't "system.ServiceModel" section and framework version of 2.0  also. So I suggest you can try remove ".net framework 2.0" at first. And then install "framework 3.5".  Hope this helps.

  • Hi Robert,

Thanks for your posted, Also, in the meantime, it might help to try using the .NET Framework cleanup tool described at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx and then attempt to re-install .NET Framework 3.5 in order to be able to use "Fix it Center".

  • Hello,

I have used the cleanup tool as suggested, removal was successful.  Rebooted and downloaded via Windows update .NET Framework 3.5, but again, it failed as follows:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

I am now receiving a persistent "Upadates are available" for the above but still unable to install on shutdown or manual update.

    Please advise

  • Hello Mson,

I am sorry, I am a user like yourself and cannot advise on your question.  I have been trying to resolve the issue for a very long time now - but it seems it is beyond a proper resolution.  Additional problems are thet many new programs will not run without .NET Framework working, so the situation is getting really annoying now.

I really appreciate Yan help, but to this date - the issue remains unresolved, and in my opinion, sould be escalated to some senior MS support tech for a swift resolution.

    Thank you

  • Dear Robert

I try fixitcenter because that I can not install some programs like "Draftsight".

Every time I do installing,  the error message "Can not access network location appdata"... is showing.

For now I find may be fixitcenter can resolve my problem, but it can not until now.

By the way, if you want to try donetfx cleanup tool, the best link is "http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip " from http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
