virtualbox windows xp product key

    Question

  • I have a valid MSDN license with a real product key generated by Microsoft's website.

However, when I use it during installation onto a VM VirtualBox, an error message saying "invalid product key" keeps appearing.

  •  You need to give a LOT more detail than that - such as at what point in the process the Key is declared invalid, and from where you actually purchased the key in the first place! - and the disk you are using for the install.

  • For starters, the edition of Windows 7 being installed needs to be the same as the edition of the PK from MSDN.

  • You should be able to do a Keyless Install of Windows and then try entering the key after the install is completed.  At that point, you should also be able to run a Diagnostic Report which will provide us with additional information about the install (also tell us what version of Windows 7 the MSDN Key is for).

To run a Diagnostic Report, download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 . Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.
