Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows 7 is not genuine

    Question

  • After a year of using my HP Touch Smart without problem I started getting the above message on my computer.  I cannot now get security updates and the pop up warning is very annoying.  Tech support said they could fix it but it would cost $100 since the warranty ran out a couple days earlier.  This unit was purchased from Best Buy.  I ran the appropriate scan the results are below.  Please help me fix this problem.

Have you been using a Registry Cleaner (possibly Advanced System Care or WiseFixer?) at all? – if so then that’s the cause of your problems and you should UNDO anything it’s done, and then post another report.
What has happened is that something has uninstalled the Software Protection Service – which controls the WGA aspects of the PC, and is required to run at all times in normal mode.
This is easy enough to fix - but there may be other problems afterwards, so do come back with the new MGADiag report afterwards. Have you been using Registry Cleaners or Optimisers?

Highlight ALL the text in bold - select Copy

    sc create sppsvc binPath= C:\Windows\System32\sppsvc.exe DisplayName= "Software Protection" depend= Rpcss start= delayed-auto obj= "NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService" password= ""

    sc privs sppsvc SeAuditPrivilege/SeChangeNotifyPrivilege/SeCreateGlobalPrivilege/SeImpersonatePrivilege

     sc sidtype sppsvc UNRESTRICTED

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window - click on the Start button, and in the Search box, type CMD. wait for the system to find the one file, then right-click on that and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt if you get one

Right-click on the C:\ icon (top left of the window) and select Edit... >Paste

You should get Success responses after each line of code (you may need to hit the Enter key to complete the last line)

    when complete, reboot.

Once you've rebooted, check to see if the Service has started - if so, then check that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is also present, and starts on request.

Post back with a new MGADiag report, and the results of the above.

  • Have you tried using System Restore to recover to a time before the error appeared?

  • Unfortunately, the installed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate edition is counterfeit. Also, the installed copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 is also counterfeit. You'll need to reformat your hard drive and install a genuine "Full Version" of Windows 7 and a genuine edition of Microsoft Office, both of which can be purchased from the Microsoft Store. If you prefer to install the original Lenovo preinstalled OEM Windows operating system, please see:How to replace Microsoft software
