Windows 7 OEM or Retail?

    Question

  • Recently i got the message saying my version of windows is not Genuine, my fault for buying 'online', it was a full retail copy of windows 7 ultimate. So from there i would like to know whether i should buy a full retail copy of windows 7 or an OEM since i only need the key to make it Genuine. Thanks

  • You can install either a genuine  Windows 7 Ultimate – Full Retail license or a  Windows 7 Ultimate - OEM.  Please see: Update your Windows product key

A retail license can be transferred to a different computer in the future and includes Microsoft assisted support; an OEM license cannot be transferred and does not include Microsoft assisted support.

  • An OEM system builder license is not intended for a DIY computer.  It is for installing Windows on a computer you are building and selling for customers.
