Microsoft Genuine Software

    Question

  • Just in the last 4-5 days the message appears saying that my Microsoft Software is not Genuine.  I have been using this software for at least seven years with no problems.  Prior to three years ago, Retirrement, I was using this laptop with this software as a company owned laptop and software.  On retirement three years ago I was given the laptop and have continues to use it and the software with no problems.  Why is this an issue now????Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):

Please follow Carey's instructions for the run and download of the Genuine Diagnostics report but what we are going to probably find is that the license will show as a volume license that is not valid.  It may be for the operating system and also the Office program that is installed.  The reason: if the company allowed the software license to lapse or Microsoft found that the volume license has been abused it will block the license key from further use.  You probably just updated the computer through the Windows or Microsoft Update site and this allowed Genuine Advantage to run.

Generally the volume license for the operating system and Office both "die" when the computer leaves the ownership of the licensing authority (your previous employment) and they are not supposed to give away licenses this way.

Once we see the report we will be able to help get you "legal."

In addition to LVTravel's excelled rundown, it would be helpful if, when you post the MGADiag report, you also included the Version and edition of Windows which is licensed for that computer - details of which should be on the COA sticker on the base of the laptop. Do NOT post the Key!
