High Commit Charge/PF Usage on a clean image. How do I track down the cause?

    Question

  • My HP Data Vault is freezing with a high commit charge.  Clean install of WHS with the factory image did not fix the problem.  I only run backups and two programs: McAfee Total Protection Service and Logitech Mediaserver 7.7.   It takes about 3 days for the problem to occur and then i have to do a hard reset to get it running again.  I have 2GB of RAM and the taskmgr showed the commit charge to be 3GB when it was frozen (usually is around 1.5 GB after startup).  I can't find an easy way to locate what is overloading the RAM.  Here are the taskmanager profiles when the WHS is first working; then on the right when it is frozen.  Ideas?

  • I have searched the net and do not find anything specific to my problem but lots of comments about hard drive failure being the culprit.  I have installed Home Server SMART and it had alerts for 2 of my 4 discs so I am testing them using my laptop and PC Doctor's harddrive scan.
