Custom Sync Provider. Source has Folder, target has Files...How in the world do I do this?!

    Question

  • I have been racking my brains for the past several days trying to solve this scenario:

On client machine I have a directory with 4 different file types (.CSV, .XLS, .DAT, and several .TXT).  What I'd like to do is create a custom sync provider that will package that information into a zip file, and transfer it to a host (or target provider). The Target zip file will be named with a Guid that exists in the CSV file, that will change if any of the supporting files change. Obviously my metadata will be different than just path, lastwritetimeutc.  The resulting zip will not remain on the source computer, but will be created there.

    So here's my questions:

    1)  Is this a common practice with the Sync Framework?  It sounds like it should be

    2)  Could someone please give me a push in the right direction?  I have scoured the web looking for a sample with this scenario type and drew nada!
