70-640 replacement
70-640 replacement
- Hi, does anyone have any info on which exam or exams will be replacing 70-640?? I understand that 83-640 is one and the other is 94-640, though I can find no info on the latter

- Hi there,
70-640 is basically being replaced by 83-640 in English language. 70-640 is just available until the end of May and afterwards you can only schedule and take 83-640 exam (English version, the rest versions should become available shortly).
As for the 94-640, as far as I remember there is no such an exam, 94-xxx is a code for some Partner competency exams (not 100% aboout it) so it cannot replace 70-640 :)

70-640 is not being replaced by 83-640.
70-640 is the traditional question based exam, and 83-640 is a virtual lab based exam testing actual practical knowledge. You can take either exam, they both give you the same qualification.

I did just tried to schedule 70-640 for the middle of June and there were no dates available after May 28. I was told by Prometric that I could schedule either 83-640 or 94-640(?) but wouldnt be able to do so until May, 28th or after, that is what led me to believe the exam had been replaced. I have learned via Microsoft's website that 83-640 has the same objectives as 70-640 but includes a performance based component.

I've never heard of 94-640 prior to this thread. How did you hear about it? - I heard of 94-640 from the person I spoke with at Prometric when she was telling me of my test taking options to satisfy the "TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring" requirements after May 28th, I may have the test number wrong though. I can find absolutely nothing about any test with 94-640 number on the Microsoft website though I did find find plenty of info on 83-640.

Yes there is a 094-640 exam (English). I am currently schedule under it through Prometric here in Ontario, Canada. I think allot of guys are getting scared now since they cannot rely on the "dumps" anymore to do an exam. The word in the biz is that Microsoft are going to change all their exams especially these ones to Q&A and sim's mixture of exams and you must pass the sims to pass the exam. In all honesty I think that is the best way to go as to many people out there has paper certs and don't have a clue on what to do when in front of a Windows Server 2008 machine.- Proposed As Answer bysound427 Saturday, May 30, 2009 12:13 AM

There is a non-disclosure agreement which is accepted before you can take the exam. If you require a practice test, please buy the MS Press book for the exam and there is a practice test CD in the back of it.

... please buy the MS Press book for the exam and there is a practice test CD in the back of it.
unfortunately - this "practice CD" does not give you sample simulations, so this kit is far from adequate for this type of sim exams :(- While partially true, the MS Press book does include a separate CD that has the MeasureUp exam for 70-640, which is very adequate. As an alternative, the Sybex book includes a CD which does have sample simulations. Both books are QUITE adequate to help prepare for the exam.
Hi Guys,
I have just read your posts on here concerning the 70-640 exam. I am currently studying to take this exam hopefully before XMAS, if i pass this exam and it is replaced will this effect the MCTS Credit and i will take the other exam mentioned in this thread?
I am new to taking MS qualifications and just want to be sure that this is still worth all the effort i am currently putting in.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Staurt- NO ,if you pass this exam ,you will certify your MCTS ,even though it has been replaced .
and the exam is replaced of the other exam,which doesnot mean this exam is useless or retired .
you will get the same cert if you pass either 70 640 or 83-640 .
