Preperation Book/Materials for MCTS: Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation, Exam 70-536
Preperation Book/Materials for MCTS: Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation, Exam 70-536
- Hi All,I'm planning on acquiring the MCTS for WCF (amongst others). I got the WCF exam recently and now need to do the 'core' cert 70-503 to get the MCTS. After looking through some blogs, it sounds like the MS Press Study Guide for this exam could be a waste of time (MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-536): Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 Foundation and MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-536): Microsoft® .NET Framework--Application Development Foundation)? Could anyone that has perhaps already done this exam let us know how they went about the preperation and if they found the MS Press study guide(s) much use? Many Thanks,Brian

Best advice for your preparation for 70-536 - Hi Brian Boru (great name by the way, the old Irish Ard Ri)
I had replied to this topic yesterday but it doesnt seem to have been posted so I will do again.
There are 2 editions of that book, make sure you get the second edition. There were issues with the first edition for sure as I believe it was rushed to market and some of the QA didnt make the grade. There are some errata pages for the second edition and you can get a list of them here
For sure that book is very very dry and for most people its a bit of "why on earth would I need to know that". As its the foundations, you go through some stuff you may never need in some aspects of .NET development.
I did a series of posts (link in my sig) that cover all the objectives for 70-536 with links to MSDN which you can use to supplement the book if you feel it doesnt explain everything well enough.
Any other questions come back to us

70-562 Objectives List with MSDN Links - I found the second edition of the microsoft press book to be enough to prepare for the exam. Also the CD with the practice tests that comes with the book is great.
