mcts win dev guy needs general advice towards mcpd ent apps

hi,

So like everyone I kept procrastinating and I had my studies, I made a post here a while ago about buying e learning, found out that I can't buy it from my country. I'm an MCTS Windows Development, and I want to take 528,529 and 549, IOW I want the MCPD enterprise apps certy. I also really want to do the WPF certy, 502, heres the problem, I need to do all this within 2.5 months while also managing development intensive projects(Mostly .net some MFC)

So could you guys gimme heads up on these exams, I've heard 529 is really difficult and I'm not all that experienced with remoting, I'm actually going to consider buying some measureup practice tests for 529 and 549, any other resources like books that would help me out would be great!

MCITP Enterprise Administrator???

I am so confused. I would like some questions answered please.

1. I have an NT MCSE and want to get current. It looks to me like MCSE was phased out with Server 2003 and the Server 2008 path would be MCITP Enterprise Administrator. Am I right, or is there to be a yet unannounced MCSE track for Server 2008?

2. If I'm right that the new MCSE is MCITP EA, it is very confusing to me how many tests I need to get certified. The link below shows 13 tests?? Is that really true?

3. I assume there is not an upgrade path for a NT MCSE?

I hope someone out there can explain the mess that Microsoft has created in their certifications.

Hi,

I have just passed MCTS 70-433 with full marks. But I did not find any note on my certificate showing how well I did in the exam. Does that means just passing exam and getting high marks have not any difference on the certificate paper?

Hello,

I noticed that somebody who aquires an Microsoft Certification Is not able to request an MCP Wallet Card anymore (MCP Plastic Card). I found that card always very cool and sometimes useful. My request would be to integrate that back into the MCP Program. Thanks.

I have recently finished University and have taken up a position with a good company as a graduate developer. We use visual studio 2008 and C# to do almost all of our development for large case management systems. I would like to start working towards my certifications as soon as possible as I do a lot of coding both at work and at home. Has anyone got any guidance as to what exam I would need to take on the way to becoming a Microsoft technology professional?

My company gives very good support for personal development but I would like to know exactly what direction I am heading before I inquire to the company.

its hard to keep track of the recent and relevant threads, i have tired to report them as i see them but they just work faster then i can report.

Hey guys I have one question... I'm almost done with all the preconditions exams (ASP, WCF, ADO, winforms), so I have started to check for documentation and info about this 70-565 but I'm surprised there is nothing, null, nada, zero. No tests in measure up, nor in test king or other test simulators, no books, no self training kits, no Microsoft press.

Do you have any idea where to find something? Will the documentation for the MCPD 2.0 enterprise developer work for the 3.5 exam?

I have waited too long taking the certification and since I am in the process of taking the certification i have a few unanswered questions:
1. Can i prepare for 70-536 using windows vista and visual studio 2008?
2. What other certification shall I need to obtain MCAD and MCPD?
3. what are the time frame for facing off of these certifications?
4. If studying from home can i rely on the microsoft site alone?

MCSA 2003 to MCSE 2003

Hello,

I have a quick question. I am currently working toward my MCSA 2003. I have completed CompTIA A+ and Network+ certs. Microsoft wise, i have completed exams 70-270 and 70-290. I am planning to take (and pass) the 70-291 exam next week. After 70-291 i will have completed my MCSA 2003.

My question is, will the MCSA 2003 count as an elective toward the MCSE? I see on the MCSE 2003 page that an MCSA 2000 can count as one elective toward the MCSE 2003. I know i need to do 70-293, 70-294, and i am planning to use 70-298 as well. Would I still need to do one more elective following 298?

Maybe this is a simple question, but i am confused. Thanks for the help!

Can anyone recommend good prep books for the MCAS exams? I visited each exam's page on the MS site and it recomended the Step-by-Step books. After skimming through the Word 2007 book, it seemed a bit too easy. I'm familar with word; but, I'm sure there's a lot of things I've never done before. Before I drop $600 on exams, I would at least like a resource I could read all the way through to help me prepare for the exams. Thanks!

Does anyone know whether or not Microsoft will be extending the Second Shot offer beyond June 30, 2009? It is always nice to know you have a second chance if you fail on the first attempt.

Hopefully they will, as I would like to achieve a few more certifications this year and having this option relieves the pressure to a certain degree.

Im currentley workign in a school running a server 2003 domain with only xp clients, We have a domain controller, file server, School management servers(x2) and a print server.
We are very intrested in moveing to windows 7 so the students can get to use it before they go out and start work. Also as we are part of the Specialist School Academy Trust we can upgrade all our computers for free. Now you know about me here is my problem.

My network manager and I do not have any training at all although I have made a test domain and played arround with it im not willing to take down the entire network and hope for the best when I upgrade the site.

But I would like some advice before I spend £600 of the schools money. I feel I would use most of what this courses will teach me.

Where to get classroom training for MCITP certification?

Hey everyone,

I was hoping to get a little advice from someone here. I have 9 years experience working different contracts in the IT field ranging from Desktop Support to some light server administration on Windows 2000 and 2003. I also held a position for 3 years working for the Virginia Employment Commission as an sys admin at one of their call centers but that was more manging telcom circuits, channel banks, and ISDN PRI lines.

The problem is while I have a good resume with alot of different experience I still feel like a Helpdesk technician because I have forgotten alot and still barely understand all the concepts behind Active Directory and Windows administration. It's like the saying goes - If you don't use it, you lose it.

Couple of things:

1. I don't want to do online only courses as I have done CBT's for other programs before and never could get a grasp of learning the material this way.
2. I don't want to JUST GET BY and get the MCITP certification (being a paper MCSE basically), as I want to soak in and LEARN the Windows server environment and know what I'm doing in a new job.

Another words, self studying for me isn't really the answer. Yes it's cheaper, but doing CBT's, or just reading from a book 24/7 isn't my idea of "taking in the knowledge" and learning the material. I don't want to MEMORIZE things, I want to be shown so I actually understand it.

This brings me to taking classroom instruction which would be ideal. I have done alot of research on about 6 different technical schools here in the Washington DC area. Just to give you an example, I have researched as well as drove out to these schools and talked with their director of admissions or admissions counselors.

1. New Horizons Computer Learning Center
2. Academy of Computer Education (ACE)
3. ComputerTraining.com
4. Knowlogy Corporation
5. Global Knowledge
6. System Source

These are the major schools in the area (all claim to be accredited schools, member of the Microsoft IT Academy as well as a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner). They range in pricing from $5000 to $18500 in tuition costs which include the books, labs, training materials, exam vouchers, etc.

I am currently unemployed and have been for 5 months now as every interview I've been on, I haven't been comfortable with the technical interview in answering the questions. The one school that really impressed me the most when I went there was ComputerTraining.com which is in Annapolis Junction, MD near where I live. They have the most to offer, but they are also the most expensive.

Here's what they claim to offer for $18500:
1. Books, Training Materials, Labs
2. One on One Instruction
3. Exam Vouchers for each module
4. Resume and Cover Letter guidance
5. Mock Interview guidance
6. Job Placement (they dont guarantee you placement but they help)
7. Lab Scenarios - they have you create an office network from scratch and throw situations at you to see if you can fix certain issues, etc

6 months course for the MCTS and MCITP - Server Administrator certs

I have been to their facility and not only was it the nicest and biggest one. I saw alot of students there that seemed pretty happy when I talked to them (they were on break from a class in the break room). The thing is, I have read some bad reviews online on ripoff or scam sites to stay away from ComputerTraining.com, but it sounded like they were just bitter because they had to do actual studying.

I wanted to get your input on my situation and what your advice is on some of these training schools. Again, I would much rather go to classroom training instead of trying to self study. I want to have not only the certs but the actual skill to perform in the job world and not just be a PAPER MCITP.

Enterprise Developer MCPD (Exam 70-565) Pre-requisites?

Hi all,
I'm slightly confused as to the pre-requisites for the above exam (70-565).
Accordind to this link, the requisites are as follows:

70-536 (Foundation)
70-505 (Windows Forms 3.5)
70-562 (ASP .Net 3.5)
70-561 (ADO .Net 3.5)
70-503 (WCF)

However, according to my training provider this is not the case, they say any combination of three MCTS along with exam 70-536 can be used as a foundation for the Enterprise Developer exam. Here is a quote from an email from them:
"I have spoken to our Microsoft product specialists regarding your query and they have confirmed that the three MCTS exams that we have discussed(70-502, 70-504, 70-503) qualify as pre requisites for the Enterprise Developer Exam (70-565)."

Can anyone clarify this? This is quoted on a lot of their promotional and informational material, and a supposed 'Microsoft Certification Specialist' confirmed it but it seems to conflict with other posts on these forums.
