Optional Update Delivery is not working - You may be a victim of Software Counterfeiting - every few weeks

  • Hi,

    My client had a Windows Home Premium which was update to Pro using an Anytime update. Every month or so the desktop goes black an she gets a counterfeit warning. This time she has a message "Optional Update Delivery is not working" - You may be a victim of Software Counterfeiting.

    I re-enter the COA details and all is OK for another few weeks. I have read a few threads and nothing looks to fix, following is my MGAdiag report

  • Certainly, there's no sign that there's any problem with either activation or validation at this stage.

    The only indication that there may at some point have been a problem is that the rearm remaining count is down to 1 - most retail installs machines have at least 2 (usually 3) rearms left.

    Hopefully, if it happens again, the WAT install will aid in gathering the information we need.

    Sometimes, such problems are due to race conditions, rather than real problems, and a reboot will fix it. You may want to take a look through the event logs and see if there's any reports of hangs in the SPP-related items.

  • We really need to see the report done while the system is in a non-genuine state.

    Is the user in the habit of using registry cleaners, or aggressive cleanup software?

    Please install the KB971033 update (The QAT update) from here.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033  - or attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer and see what the result is

    My client complained of the issue yesterday afternoon and nothing had been done to the machine to change it from the state it was in.<o:p></o:p>

    No cleaners are used on the PC.

    I have updated the support.microsoft.com/kb/971033 which installed OK. I run the validater and this complated OK.
