  • Hello Domonique,

On line 7, you can see that the version of Windows XP, that you have installed, is Volume License.  As a rule, Volume editions of XP should not be sold to individual consumers. Large corporations, Schools and Goverments have legal agreements with Microsoft, which assign them a unique Volume License Key (VLK).  Using their assigned VLK to install software provides them with the flexibility of installing on a large number of computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.

On line 2, it says "Invalid Product Key". I have check the Product Key Hash and Product ID (lines 3 & 4) in our Product Key tool here and the Key was created using an illegal key generating tool.  These product keys are commonly referred to as a ‘keygen’ key.  These type of applications can be found out on the internet and they are used to create Invalid Product Keys that look and act like a real keys, but were not, manufactured by Microsoft.

Possable Scenarios for why you might have a Non-Genuine copy of Windows on your computer:

    A)  It is quite common for unscrupulous resellers to bundle a keygen VLK with software because they are aware that there is only a small chance that the purchaser will find out that they have received counterfeit Software and Product Key. If you go to http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/default.mspx , you can see that some counterfeits can be very sophisticated.

If you think this may be the case with your copy of Windows, Here are a few options:

    1) Contact the person/company that sold you the software and demand the Genuine Microsoft software, that you paid for. Or a Refund.

    2) Click on the blue star in the System Tray and Submit a Piracy Report to Microsoft. If it is a High Quality counterfeit (go to http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/default.mspx for comparisons), you may be eligible for a free replacement.

    3) Click on the blue star in the system tray and follow the directions to purchase a WGA

    B) It is also quite common for a Genuine Windows user who takes their PC to be repaired. Unbeknownst to the customer, the repair shop installs an unlicensed copy of Windows.

If you think this may be the case with your copy of Windows, Here are a few options:

    1) If you bought your computer with Windows pre-installed, look on your computer for a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) sticker. It will tell you your Product Key and what version of XP the key will work with (i.e. XP Pro or XP Home) You currently have XP Pro installed, so if the CoA says XP Home, you will need to reinstall Windows using the key listed on the CoA. If the CoA says XP Pro, then you can use the utility found here: www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/pkuinstructions.aspx to switch out the bad key for the key found on your CoA.

    2) Click on the blue star in the system tray and follow the directions to purchase a WGA

  • I have a copy of Xp PRO i got via MSDN and it wont validate.. I have emailed MS but no response it works fine for the most part but I cant use WMP 11. HOwever I can dowload all updates as needed and it passes the validation check online. It is very odd. It says you have passed the WGA and you may now access updates via MS download like other genuwine users.

The Product Key in use for this installation is a Volume License Key - and one that was never generat3ed by MS, but by a hacker's KeyGen program.
For what version and edition of Windows is your computer licensed according to the COA Sticker on the case (if there is one)?

There is also a significant part of the report missing - please repost a new one if your OWN NEW thread.
