  • Ok thanks, but I just restored my computer back to the factory settings and everything is working fine. I really wish I didn't have to do that but I'm glad I saved all my info to a flash drive. Thank you for your help and I hope I dont run into anymore problems.

For some reason your Software Protection Service is not running.
please check the status of the service in the Services Console....
    Click on Start
    in the Search box, type
    SERVICES.MSC
and hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.
Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.
make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.
Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?
Post back with your results, and a new MGADiag report.

My computer has been working fine for the last 2yrs up until this point. I think I modified the windows folder by accident trying to explore my sharing options. I hope I can resolve this issue because my computer is my livelihood and I do so much work on it. I really appreciate your assistance in helping me.

The problem here is that something has switched off the Software Protection Service....
please check the status of the service in the Services Console....

System Error 5 is a painful one.....
     <quote>
If you receive any other error (System Error 5, System Error 57346 or System Error 54273): These occur as a result of massive file corruption.  We do not know what the root cause of the corruption is and this can be caused by any situation where files could be corrupted. However, from troubleshooting others that had this issue, the likeliest causes are either Malware Infection or failing Hard Drive.
        </quote>
    So - first things first.
Please check the Hard drive, using CheckDisk.....
First we need to run a Disk Check in Windows - it may either point up errors, or fix some.
    Click on Start
    In the Search box, type
    CMD.EXE
wait for the one response to be found, and right-click on it - select Run as Administrator.
The Elevated Command Prompt window should appear (approve the UAC prompt, if you get one)
    at the prompt, type
    CHKDSK   C:  /F
    and hit the Enter key
You should be told that the Volume cannot be unmounted, and asked if you want to run the check on reboot - answer Yes.
reboot - Windows will begin to boot, and should then run the chkdsk. If it finds anything wrong, it will probably reboot again.

Once complete, look for the resulting report in the Event Viewer Application log - the Source is Wininit - and post the results.

Ouch - the fact that there is even one bad sector showing could mean that the hard drive is on the way out.
Back up your data to external storage before proceeding any further!
Once you've done that, you should download the Hard Disk manufacturer's disk test utility, create the disk (or install the program) from the download, and then run it - use the short test first, and then the long one. See what it has to say about the state of your drive.

Okay I will back up my data right away! Will it help if I restore my computer back to factory settings or even download windows 7 loader?
    Belinda Campbell

No - the Loader you talk about is a way to circumvent WGA requirements, and always gets found out eventually with potentially bad results!.
Once you have your data secure, you need to use the HD manufacturer's tool to see if there's a hardware problem with the disk - if there is, then it needs to be replaced.
If not, then we can carry on troubleshooting.

You need to find the HD manufacturer's name from Device Manager, and then go to their website and download the tool from there.

  • Ok thanks, but I just restored my computer back to the factory settings and everything is working fine. I really wish I didn't have to do that but I'm glad I saved all my info to a flash drive. Thank you for your help and I hope I dont run into anymore problems.

  • I doubt that was really necessary - and it certainly won't cure any hardware problem with the drive - but so long as it works OK , that's a good result!

    Good Luck!

  • Hi Noel,

I have been getting the same issue on my machine. its an hp laptop and i too bought it two years back. my windows was working properly and i am running Microsoft security essentials on my laptop. for some time back (i cant actually remember since when) i have been intimated by this error on the bottom right hand side of my screen. Thrice in this week, for the first time since i am using it, my computer restarted automatically. i have run the upper posted service protection check and this service has started on my machine. Please help me with what to do now and how to proceed? Gratitude.

  • To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
     Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
