Is this copy of Windows legal? (bug?)

    Question

  • Well is it? I got the package and key from connect. Wink

Start - Programs - Accessories - Windows Explorer
    Then click on...
Help - Is this copy of Windows legal?

I jumped through the hoops (IE7) and it says:
You are unable to run the Windows Validation Assistant.
The Windows Validation Assistant requires you to be running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. The Windows Validation Assistant also must be run in Internet Explorer.

Since WHS is built on win2k3, this should have passed, right?

  • Am I the only one or is this known too?

  • I think this is caused by the "Enchanced Security Configuration" that is enabled by default for IE on the server.  I tried what you did and noticed that the ActivX control was blocked from being downloaded.  I imagine there is a way to add the validation site and download the activeX control but I have not had much luck with adding trusted sites in IE7 on the server...

Since the ActiveX control was not downloaded I got the same message you did.
