Win7 x64 Ult "this copy of windows is not genuine"?

    Question

  • Owned this computer for over a year, never had issues with the the product key activation in the past.  No new hardware installed recently (did have a new vid card replaced 3 months ago), no new software installed recently (not in months).

Yesterday I wake up with my background all black and the "This copy of windows is not genuine" comment in the lower-right hand corner.

Attempts to "activate" simply result in being taken to a browser window that says my options are limited to paying $199 for another license of Win7.  No idea here why my existing activated version of Win7 stopped being considered legit, as far as I know it was legit for the past year.

  • Below is the information I received regarding the Key Block Reason "SBC COA Replacement"

"The key is blocked because the COA label was replaced through the SBC COA Replacemen program. System Builders are eligible for replacement when a COA label is either damaged. Once the order has been validated and a new COA has been issued, we submit a Key Block on the old damaged COA.

Please instruct the customer to use the product key that was issued with their new COA label."

If you were not the one that requested the replacment COA, then the person or company that sold you this OEM Windows Software/Key or who sold you the PC is the one that did and they need to supply you with that new COA.

    Thank you,

    Result:

The product key used to activate Windows on your PC is already in use on another PC or has been blocked by Microsoft. Not to worry, we can help you with that.

$199 for a product I already paid for, and have validated and been using for >1yr?

The Key in use has been blocked - presumably because of Abuse (which covers a multitude of sins).

From the error "Notification Reason: 0xC004F200 (non-genuine)." it looks as if it's possibly a Key that was generated by a hacker's tool, rather than from MS -

I suggest that you first attempt manual activation by phone -
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI   4
    and hit the Enter key
you should be offered the phone activation wizard - follow the prompts, but when the ansafone asks which service you require do NOT respond - this should force an operator to pick up who can deal with your problem.

Failing that, hopefully Darin will be able to give some history to your Key which will explain your problem.

  • I have looked up this key and it is showing as Blocked with a reason  of "SBC COA Replacement".  This is Reason I have not seen before so I have requested a clearer explanation of the Reason.

I am unsure how long it will take, I will post back when I have more information.
