Do I have to install A/V role on Edge Server R2 in the setup wizard?
-
Tuesday, September 01, 2009 2:02 PMWe are migrating from OCS 2007 to 2007 R2. I have the inside OCS R2 box built. I'm now working on building the new Edge R2 server. We do not need the A/V role. But it appears that in the setup wizard for the Edge box that it automatically installs all 3 roles (Access Edge, Web and A/V) and then I'm forced to configure the IP address and FQDN for the A/V role.Is there a way to not to install the A/V edge role in the setup wizard?thanks,Stephen

But if you have no requirement for either the Web Conf or A/V conf roles Microsoft recommends that they be disabled after installation.
Take a look at this article for more details: http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/schertz_jeff/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=70

Simply set the unwanted services to a startup type of Disabled. And make sure that none of the unwanted roles are referrenced in the internal OCS settings (like pointing to an A/V Authentication service from a front-end pool). Typically those are blank and require you to set them manually after an Edge deployment, so if you disable the services immediately after setup and then you should be fine.
