    trying to get my Eval version of OCS 2007 to do group IM and I'm getting the following error:

              The conferencing service did not respond. Wait and then try again. If you still cannot connect, contact your system administrator with this information. (ID: 3098)

    two person IM is working fine
    any ideas?

        A key thing to remember is that all two person conversations are point to point, any conferencing must flow through the server.

        Can your clients communicate with the front end server on port 5061 and vice versa?

        Are you on a standard edition or enterprise edition topology.

        Is the certificate on your front end server a public certificate or one from an internal enterprise CA?
