The OCS Product Team has just released a blog update on this topic, and confirmed that rolling-back (or not installing) that specific patch is the only resolution (or prevention) at the moment: http://communicationsserverteam.com/archive/2009/10/14/632.aspx
Jeff Schertz, PointBridge | MVP | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging | MCTS: OCS - Man, our R2 auto updated (oops.com on me) and I caught the blog JUST before we started to format the box and rebuild it. Glad I caught it at least.
- Jeff, I'm actually seeing very similar behavior in office communicator as well now after updating my machine over night, regarding an error about running an evaluation or pre-release version of communicator. Can you confirm that this is also a related update issue with something Microsoft changed in this round of updates as well?

- I have also faced the same issue Today. I went through the following blog & follow the steps. Then is works fine for me.

Thanks Jeff, the confirmation is much appreciated, glad I'm not crazy. Can you confirm if it's linked to the XP/Vista/Win7 KB974571 update as well? Obviously this could have pretty large ramifications if true
