Problem with importing data into CRM online

We're trying to migrate our on-premise crm solution & data to crm online. exporting (from on-premise) and importing (to online) of the default solution worked flawlessy. the next step would be to export accounts, contacts, prices lists etc from on-premise. to accomplish this we started out with exporting accounts using the following steps:
1) in the on-premise solution: create a personal view of all accounts, adding all columns (to be sure we don't miss out on anything) and exporting this to an excel xml file. before exporting we've checked 'make this data available for re-importing...'
2) in the online crm solution choose 'import data', then choose the export file from step 1
crm says that the import succeeded (no errors whatsoever). but when i switch to the accounts there's nothing to be seen, not even when i create a personal view
when i go to settings>data management>imports i see the import in the list with the following info. status reason: completed, sucesses: 0, partial failures: 0, errors: 0, total processed: 0
when i open the excel xml file in excel it contains all the acocunt records and fields, so this seems to be in order. we're using crm online in trial mode, with 20 days remaining. i've tried exporting contacts, activities and price lists as well, but here the import of this data into crm online gave the same results as previously descibed
thanks in advance for your help

Hi Glen,
The reason you are not getting any records imported is that you are marking the export as available for re-importing. CRM online is looking at your import and not finding any records to update - so it does nothing.
Try again, but leave the checkbox unchecked.

Hi Scott this is fine if you want CRM Online to allocate a new GUID to each of the records. The XML file method, between on-prem to on-prem, allos creation of the records in the target CRM with the GUID of the source.
Does CRM Online not allow that also then? This will cause us issues of unique ID mastery as we have dependent systems to those Contact GUIDs in the source.
