    Hi Everyone,

I've recently exported ALL Account records from MSCRM v4 into excel (csv file) for some data tidying up - I exported everything including the ACCOUNT NAME and ACCOUNT_ID (GUID). I'm now in the position where by I need to re-import the data back into CRM based on a matched import and thus updating the Account record in the CRM application with the changes I've made in the (csv) files.

Is this possible using the basic importer or will I need to use a third party app?

    Many thanks.

The import utility doesn't do update imports--it just creates new records, so unless you are wiping out your account data and re-importing these records, it's not going to cut it for you.

One very affordable product that you should consider is EBAX from prosoft.  It is an excel add-in that will allow you to import any CRM view in Excel, clean it up, create new records, etc, then import back in and update your records.  I use it all the time.

Other products like Scribe Insight (www.scribesoft.com) are good for update inserts, and are worth considering if you are going to do a lot of data migrations or integrations (but may be pricy for just a one-time import).

You should be able to use the CRM Data Migration Manager for this task.  I haven't used it for updates yet, but I have done migration that links to existing records and it worked well.  I have been very pleased with the 'out of the box' product.
