An error occurred promoting this item to microsoft. The CRM Server could not be contact or the user has insufficient permissions to perform this action
- One of our users is experiencing the above error when trying to track certain emails, so far we have tried:
Installing KB 949719 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/949719)
The email we are trying to track contains 8 recipients and has two attachments. 3 of the recipients have email display name <First Last Name (emailaddress)>, there are no hyphen's or pictures in the email footer, the email is trying to be tracked upon sending it.
We had some luck amending the display name of another email (deleting the email address from the display name),
The user is able to track other emails no worries, the common theme appears to be emails with display names with email address listed AND have attachments (the attachment names do not contain &)
Using CRM 4.0 Rollup 5
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bon

Issue is resolved in Rollup 6.
Sometimes you think you've turned the bloody search engines inside out and then the search combination you've failed to try is just too obvious! =)- Marked As Answer byBon.Scott Friday, November 06, 2009 5:55 PM

- Hi Bon,What is the size of the attachment? MS CRM limits the size of the attachment to 10 MB.H.
Hassan Hussain | http://hassanhussain.wordpress.com/ | http://www.mscrmvirtualusergroup.com/ - Yep, nowhere near 10 mb unfortunately,
900 kb
Thanks,
Bon - Can you please paste the exact error message that you are getting?thanks,H.

Preceded by a big red X :)

- Have you tried increasing this users permissions in the CRM system, adding him to another role or something like that?
Is this user using a security role that was created or is he using a security role that came with the crm setup?
Do other users using only the same security role as this user experience the same problem?
Attachments use another entity if I remember correct so if the user does not have access to it then it would only fail on email containing attachments. - We have recently (past couple of months) created a new security role for Users of the Opportunity module but have not experienced any problems to-date,
I'll review/test removing permissions for the new role and see if that makes a difference,
Report back then,
Thanks
Bon - There was a problem with new security roles in CRM 4.0, not sure if it has been fixed but the error is that a few hidden parameters are not being set correct.
If you are creating a new security role then I suggest you make a copy of a security role that came with the crm 4.0 setup and edit it to suit your needs.- Marked As Answer byDonna EdwardsMVP, ModeratorTuesday, October 20, 2009 3:28 PM

- Unfortunately removing the new security role has not resolved the problem,
Instead we have a different error when we try to track the same email>
'Invalid e-mail address. For more info contact your CRM admin'
Very strange???? Any ideas?
Thanks
Bon
Edit - Just FYI we have tried and fresh reinstall of the Outlook (Desktop) client and still no luck.
- Quick update on this;
The above issue has been narrowed down to the display name of the recipients email address,
Emails sent to an address with display name:
'First Name.Last Name (email address)' will not track
After testing, CRM is able to track emails received with the above display name,
But when you try to track a sent email we receive the errors listed above,
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Would be great to know if this is known issue or not.
I guess a suggested solution would be to amend Outlook address book display names. However this is not an ideal solution given the amount of entries that may need to be amended.
