Import with template for data import

I am trying to learn to import two related entities (Real Estate Property and Appliance entities) using template for data import. The entities have a relationship: A property can multiple appliances.
I have created template for Data import under Settings/Data Management. They are as follows:
For Real Estate Property, the excel shows following columns:
Name, OwnerProperty1, owner1
Property2, owner1
Property3, owner1
For Appliance, the excel shows following columns:
Name, OwnerApplance1, owner1 // Belong to Property1
Applance2, owner1 // Belong to Property1
Applance3, owner1 // Belong to Property2
Applance4, owner1 // Belong to Property3
I have put a subgrid of appliance within the Real Estate Property form. This creates a 1:N relationship between property and appliance.
However, I just not sure how I can import the relationship between Property and Appliance if I simply fill in the templates and perform imports (Import property entity, then import appliances).
I have not able to find any reference for that. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,
When you import appliances, also add 3rd field in the appliance template. This 3rd field in the appliances excel sheet will contain the Real estate property name.
Since the relationship is already defined in CRM. So after the imports, the appliances will automatically appear in the sub grids of the real estate properties.
I hope this helps. If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.

Wednesday, May 02, 2012 6:56 PMAm I correct that the 3rd field I added in the Appliance Entity records should be the Primary field of RealEstateProperty?
How about if I would like a different field (e.g. propertyID) in the RealEstateProperty to be added into the Appliance Entity records.
Can I do that? What relationship do I need to create and how? Thanks. -

Hi Irene,
When importing you can only have the primary field in the appliances template (file).
This is the primary field of the entity real estate property. This field will link the appliances to the property.
I hope this helps. If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.
