    Hi,

Want to know the strategy for testing the outlook client. Ideally what should the approach be. Should we do the testing in dev environment or should be done in live to make sure everything is working fine.

If you can test in a dev environment first, that is the normal protocol for testing your solution.  Since the Outlook Client not custom code or system changes, I don't see why you couldn't just install it on one workstation and test it out.  Is there a specific concern you have with the Outlook Client?  One thing to note is that you have the same Update Rollup installed for the Outlook Client as you have installed on the CRM server.
