I've been asked to take over CRM 2011 development from a recently-departed developer (erm as in departed the company!) I have no CRM 2011 experience of course. :)

When I try to run Deployment Manager, it comes up with an error "can't load snap-in" because "specified domain can't be contacted".

I have added the domain to HOSTS, ie: 127.0.0.1 my.domain.com. However I assume it was working before so he must have used it without having to do that.

Can anyone suggest things to try/check to get deployment manager running? Many thanks!

Note: It's running in a VM (there's a production VM and this development VM). The VM itself is running ok, has access to the internet and I can RD into it.

    HI alistaircobalt,

Are you domain admin? Also be sure you are also sysadmin on the SQL server and verify you have access to the MSCRM_config database.

    Hi Alistair,

    Try adding the registry key:

    Name: PreferredDC
    Type: string
    value: Name_of_your_DC

This should force deployment manager to use a specific domain on your network and hence force the 'domain' connectivity.

let us know if this helped
