Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online connection fails with Dynamics CRM for Outlook using office365 user account (xxxx.myorganization.onmicrosoft.com).

  • Hello Friends,

    I am facing problem while connection Dynamics CRM Online 2011 for Outlook with CRM Online.

    I am keep getting following error:

    Cannot connect to Microsoft Dynamics CRM server because we cannot authenticate your credentials. Check your connection or contact your administrator for more help.

    I followed all methods on this KB http://rc.crm.dynamics.com/rc/2011/en-us/online/5.0/outlook-troubleshooting.aspx to resolve this issue, but no luck. Last suggestion was to get support or ask on forum. So I am here and need your help.

    I setup 30 days trial for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Online form here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/crm-free-trial-overview.aspx with my Windows Live ID. It is a Office365 + CRM Online trial pack. It created default user for office365 and crm online (onmicrosoft.com) with user id something like xxxx@myorganization.onmicrosoft.com and asked for password. Well after completing the setup process, I was able to login to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online with my Office365 user account.

    Then I downloaded from here https://portal.microsoftonline.com/download/default.aspx and installed on my system (OS Windows 7 and Outlook 2010).

    Then I opened Configuration Wizard for CRM for Outlook. Here in Server Url, I entered URL of my CRM Online.


    Clicked on Test Connection and entered the credentials from my Office365 user account.


    But i am unable to connect, KB here http://rc.crm.dynamics.com/rc/2011/en-us/online/5.0/outlook-troubleshooting.aspx is  saying that I have to validate my Windows Live ID, but here I am not using my live id, I am using Office365 user account and I don't know how to validate it.

    Please tell me if I am doing something wrong and using wrong steps. Please help and guide me, what procedure I should use.

  • Instead of entering the URL to your online instance, try dropping down the same box where you enter the server URL and choose CRM Online and then do Test Connection. This should prompt for credentials and then display your organization below once authenticated.

    Issue is now gone, the problem was in my Outlook. Outlook was unable to find .pst file of my configured email address.
